my story

A last minute decision resulted in me joining the elite forces of one of society’s oldest and sometimes most feared professions… Accounting! The perception of an accountant’s job as being mundane and boring is far from the truth – in fact adding up numbers is only part of the equation! Changes in legislation (and there has been no shortage of that!) often results in in-depth discussions (aka letting off steam) at times and for the best part of my eight years at the firm it has been an enjoyable experience.

Being one of Kevin’s ‘wing men’ (aka senior accountant) my responsibilities are diverse including preparation of financial statements and tax returns, client liaison, review of staff work as well as providing ongoing professional development to staff.

Whilst it is true to say that there is generally no rivalry in the office, there’s one ‘sensitive’ area that we can never agree on… who is the supreme WA football team – the ‘Weagles’ or the ‘Shockers’! There is no doubt in my mind as to who is the better team, however Kevin would strongly dispute my opinion, being the passionate Eagles supporter that he is. Perhaps one of these days my ‘proud, loyal and passionate’ antics will ruffle a few Eagles’ feathers!

As for outside of work, I enjoy being a tutor in my parish, which involves teaching students how to spell, read and write Vietnamese. Whilst it is not always easy to get the students involved, with the help of a few ‘bribery tricks’ such as sweets and stickers combined with the occasional stern look, I think I am on the road to success!
